Many of the approximately 20,000 entries have detailed commentary. Rupert Simms (1854-1937) lost both hands and an arm at the age of eight but learned to write by inserting a pencil in a hole in the leather case he wore on his right arm. A secondhand bookseller by trade, he spent 11 years collecting and collating the information for this bibliography. There is a later edition of this book limited to 450 numbered copies.
