A facsimile of the original bibliography published in the Bulletin of the New York Public Library, Volume 26, No.1, January, 1922 (Besterman 686). Descriptions of more than 900 books, pamphlets, periodicals, photographs and other material collected by Albert G. Spalding and given to the library by Mrs. Spalding after his death. A. G. Spalding (1850-1915) was the premier pitcher for the Chicago White Stockings during the 1870s, the club's president from 1882 to 1891, founder of a sporting goods empire, and author of Baseball: America's National Game (1911). The extensive chapter on pictorial material lists individual and team photographs as well as tintypes and original drawings, many dating to the late 1860s, when Civil War soldiers were still in their twenties. Scarce in any format.
