Edition limited to 250 copies. Volume I is the only volume published. Bookbinding and its aesthetic aspects are beautifully shown with the help of books accumulated through the centuries. Illustrations with text range from the XIIth through the XIXth centuries. The Royal Library contains a wealth of specimens of Italian, French, and German Renaissance bindings, but scarcely anything of interest of early English. The descriptive text alongside the pictures draws attention to the peculiarities of the binding, the method of forming the decoration, the colors, and other features not directly observable on the illustrations.Matters of technique have been given special attention. Includes an historical note by Carl S. Petersen, Chief Librarian of the Royal Library Copenhagen. The book has been bound by Andker Kyster. Bookseller's label on front paste-down. Fore-edge foxed, else fine.
