Order Nr. 48458

Scholderer, librarian for early printed books at the British Museum, discusses incunabula in Italy, what was printed and where, and points out some contrasts with German production of the time. An address given at the General Meeting of the Gutenberg Society on 6/26/32. Inserted is a page from an unidentified bookseller's catalogue offering an Italian incunable. Set in Stempel-Memphis. In terms of typography and contents this book makes an extraordinary contrast with the published address for the same occasion in 1933 (see our listing under "Dyroff"), and the difference is a "graphic" documentation of the influence of politics and ideology on books. "Minor publication" no. 19 of the Society. Wrapper discolored. Disbound.
