Order Nr. 18339

Limited to 250 numbered copies. (Warde No.68). Some rubbing to boards. Some wear at spine ends, with minor loss at head of spine. Else a fine copy. Typography by Bruce Rogers. Printed on hand- made paper with type imported from France. The original copper plates have been cut on wood by M. Lamont Brown and the prints mounted. With an engraved title page. Loosely inserted is a prospectus. From the Thomas M. Whitehead Collection of Books About Books.

The typography is by the notable American book designer Bruce Rogers (1870-1957), who "was appreciated in his lifetime. In addition to several honorary degrees, in 1948 he was awarded a gold medal from the American Academy of Arts and Letters for distinction in the graphic arts. Over decades of accomplishment in which he designed approximately 500 books... Rogers literally defined the profession of book designing in the United States" (ANB).
