The Winterthur Library collection of 1,885 trade catalogues represent a sampling of virtually everything Americans imported, made, sold and bought form 1750 to 1980. In addition to the title of each catalogue, entries list the name and location of the firm that issued it, collation information and remarks on the nature of the company and the contents of the catalogue. Entries are arranged by type of item sold and are indexed chronologically, geographically and alphabetically. This first volume in the Research Resources at Winterthur Series has twenty-four black-and-white illustrations.
