One of 1,684 copies (total edition: 1,700) of the special issue produced for the employees of the Staatsdruckerei (State Printing Office) who are listed by name within the volume. First edition of this commemorative volume marking the centenary of the Imperial and State Printing Office in Vienna.
This work represents a pinnacle of book art and design produced by the Staatsdruckerei - and indeed by the Monarchy itself - in the early 20th century. The typeface was designed by Rudolf von Larisch (the "Plinius" font); the 7 original woodcuts printed within the text, as well as the woodcuts reproduced via photo-zincography, are by C. O. Czeschka; and the decorative elements (initials, borders, title designs, etc.) were created by Koloman Moser, who also served as the artistic director for the printing process. The accompanying texts were written by A. W. Unger and Josef Dernjac.
"...a bibliophilic treasure, one of the few cohesive and monumental volumes representative of Viennese Art Nouveau." -Durstmüller II, 195.
