Taken from a 1986 lecture which needed to be shared in print format, Carlton Seitz's text is not only shared here on the history of paper mills from Baltimore Country, it also comes with an updated index. Not only a vital resource for collectors of history relating to Maryland, but for papermaking collectors as well.
Introduction by John McGrain (d. 2021). "The frontispiece and the over-shot wheel were cut by Robert Hale & printed from the blocks. The former is a representation of the Gunpowder Mill between 1847 and 1889; the latter is most likely the Beckley Mill. The water marks are drawn from pictures taken in about 1990. The fine-line drawings were made by Bob Pratt. The text types were cast by Theo Rehak using Cloister Old Style No. 2 on a Barth casting machine. Titling is Centaur designed by Bruce Rogers cast by Balto. Type and M&H. The paper was made by Velké Losiny with William Hoffman's watermark of 1776. The press is a 23 x 34" Albion and press assistance was by Sean Sweeney during the final quire. Bindings are by Campbell-Logan and Don Rash, consummate craftsmen that they are." -Colophon.
