This book contains 20 original decorated paper samples from the 18th century. Contains a seven-page essay by Sönmez on a brief history of 18th-century block-printed paper, with one b&w illustration. A wonderful collection of very rare and special historical decorated papers in small format.
"Block-print papers are a good example of the new appearances of a technique that has been applied for thousands of years. With block printing, we see changes in material and use, but the basic technique survives to this day. The connection of textile art with the Orient in terms of application and ornamentation and its effect on block-printed papers are obvious here. Paper-coloring techniques with a history of a thousand years have emerged with different appearances in every age, occasioned by varying needs, aesthetic purposes, and new techniques.
