First German edition thus of this scarce textbook in the form of a portfolio. Chipping to the interior wrappers, very minor fading to the outer edges of the portfolio. Else a near fine copy. With 5 plates by A.E.R. Gill. Translated from the 2nd improved edition from English by Anna Simon. First published in English in 1909, written by three great typographers of the 20th century. In this edition there is still no additional supplement printed in 1922 with the German writings by Anna Simons. Edward Johnston and Eric Gill had a major influence on the shaping of German book art.
