During the second half of the nineteenth century, the Cox bindery was the largest in the Mid-West. Housed in Chicago's famous publishing emporium - the Lakeside Building - the firm bound books for R. R. Donnelley and the Chicago Public Library. This book is a facsimile reprint of a trade catalogue which was first published in 1878. It describes the different kinds of binding done by the firm and includes a forty-page price list for different binding sizes and styles, thereby providing first-hand documentation for hundreds of binding variations.
