The Royal Commission, aka the Historical Manuscripts Commission, was commissioned in 1869 by Queen Victoria to find and list manuscripts of historical interest in private collections. The task has expanded over time to include preservation and publication. This centenary exhibition catalogue lists 198 items selected from 18 collections. Some illustrations, various appendices.
