Order Nr. 92847

Text in German and French. Numbered copy, 1105. This is a reprint of a Swiss "military exercise" book originally published in Schaffhausen, Switzerland in 1677. The original book was written by Johannes Schalch, a lieutenant, who was a Bailiff of Neuenkirch (1681-1687) and son of the riding master, Philipp Schalch. Several lovely engravings are included and there are many elaborate drawings of different battle strategies. Also included are diagrams of how to properly use a variety of weapons. The modern endnote is entirely in German, unlike the dual language reprint. A Christmas note is laid-in to a Harry from Bill Weaver, explaining the history of the book and how the first page in the book has Harry's coat of arms. Mild tanning to edges of pages, light bump to ends of the spine, covers are lightly soiled.
