First edition. Critical commentary on the Latin poetry of Etienne Pasquier (1529-1615), submitted as a doctoral thesis to the Faculty of Letters at the University of Paris. Pasquier, a French lawyer and man of letters, is best known for his Recherches de la France(10 vol.) (1560-1621), an encyclopedic and important work of historical scholarship that fuses the poetic format in Latin and extensive legal documentary research. Pasquier is also known for his literary criticism, political commentary, religious satire, and biblical exegesis. With the small private book label of H.P.K. (Kraus) affixed to the front pastedown.
