A controversial figure even in his own time, he is remembered for his poetic gifts as well as his turbulent life, marked with alcoholism and unstable relationships. His work was often highly original but filled with biting satire and cynicism. In 1938 this collection became a part of the Lippische Landesbibliothek, Detmold, where it forms the Grabbe-Archiv Alfred Bergmann. Loosely inserted is a commemorative book label that indicates that this volume came from the reference library of H.P. Kraus purchased by Oak Knoll Books at the auction sale. Cover irregularly faded.
