Text appears to be removed from some previous work on Horace as the pagination starts 26 on a left hand side. Bennett was a Cornell University professor. This copy is inscribed "President Jacob Gould Schurman, With the compliments of the translator. Ithaca, June 5, 1910." Schurman was President of Cornell from 1892 to 1920 and helped much in its expansion. After leaving the University he served as envoy to China and ambassador to Germany. Covers rubbed.
