Antiquarian Colin Franklin explores the rich history of calligraphy, printing, and bookmaking in Japan; supplemented by examples from his extensive collection of Japenese books and scrolls. 93 beautiful color plates. The text is set in Scripps College Old Style, originally designed by Frederic W. Goudy. Decorations throughout the book are taken from traditional Japanese patterns. Blue and gold patterned endpapers mirror the decoration of the slipcase. Binding is half blue silk . Colorful Japanese prints decorate the paper-covered boards.
