First edition. At the very bottom of the Great Depression in the United States, a group of young men and women in and around the book business formed a cooperative corporation dedicated to publishing works of literary significance that commercially-minded publishers were neglecting and to publishing such works in ways that enabled the graphic arts to illuminate as well as enhance an author's meaning. Such idealism usually withers as soon as it blossoms but the Equinox Cooperative Press succeeded, and the present memoir describes the participants in that valiant enterprise, their motives, the principles that guided them, their mode of work, the books they published, and the reasons they disbanded just when they were the most profitable. Ink inscription on free endpaper.
