Printed on cream laid paper with Worthy watermark, all edges rough-trimmed. The colophon states: This poem, by Robinson Jeffers, appeared in the Youths Home Companion [sic] on June ninth nineteen hundred and four, and was his first poem to be sold. It is my favorite among the shorter works, and having been written at the age of seventeen, it already shows the great power and the magnificent understanding that later soared to such great heights in his mature writing. It is with great reverence and warm friendship that this poem has been reprinted in an edition of twelve copies for Una and Robin and a few members of the inner circle, at The Quercus Press in San Mateo, California, on September twelfth 1940. / T.M.L.
