Presentation by the author on front free endpaper. Some soiling to the top edge of the first leaf, else a fine copy. A study of the work of Joseph Thouvenin, a nineteenth century French bookbinder and gilder who was most active during the French Empire, starting his apprenticeship with the younger Bozerian in 1802. A major figure in the revival of fine bookbinding after the French Revolution, Thouvenin is best remembered for his development of the fanfare style of bookbinding. The study is illustrated with 60 reproductions, with 13 in color.
