Order Nr. 137251

First edition, of which this copy is bound in the original publisher's decorated cloth. (Fuller p.69). Very light age-darkening to the edges of the binding and spine. Light shelfwear at extreminities, particularily to spine ends. Very scarce in this binding variant. Profusely illustrated with reproductions of bookplates in the text and ten separate plates. The last 96 pages list ladies' bookplates. Inscribed to Lady Sackville from Chas. P. Johnson. Bookplate of R.T. Yeend. This appears to be the earliest study of womens' book-plates and women book-plate designers (including Kate Greenaway, Edith Greene, Agnes Castle) in English.
