First edition limited to 30 signed and numbered copies. This book is the second in a series of three accordion books produced by Nedim Sönmez. This book contains 84 original decorated paper samples from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Contains a nine-page essay by Sönmez on a brief history of decorated paper. A wonderful collection of very rare and special historical decorated papers in small format.

"My first encounter with decorated paper in Europe was about forty years ago when I started my life in the Federal Republic of Germany. I was very surprised to see the art of marbling, which I knew from Turkey, was also known and made in European countries. Later, while researching the history of marbling, which is my main field of activity, I started to get to know the paper coloring techniques of different cultures and I began to collect information on their subject, as well as the decorated papers I had encountered, in order to write a book on worldwide paper decorating techniques.

We usually come across these beautiful papers on or inside books or as the interior lining of a furniture. Very few of them have reached today in layers. These papers are an art form that has been produced for over 500 years using very different techniques combined with a very rich variety of patterns.

The history of decorated paper is a special branch that is known only by experts. However, there are official institutions; such as, museums and private collectors, that are experts on the subject. Therefore, the works in this book are a very small part of an important collection of thousands of pieces, which were gathered as a result of hard auctions and long years of research. I
am pleased this book is valued and loved in private and public libraries as a small, yet valuable collection of decorated paper. The book will have a very important function for recognizing and
analysing historical papers as well as being used as a reference source."
