Order Nr. 130765

A.L.s., dated December 30, 1844, from van Rensselaer to a Dutch Reformed minister, accompanying a gift of "John Calvin's Last Farewell to the Four Syndics and Senators of Geneva," described by the prospectus, an imprint of E. Carey, Geneva, New York. Not accompanied by the portrait itself. The writer extols Calvin as "that great light" of Presbyterianism, Protestantism, and "I may as well add, of Christendom." The letter was creased, with some tearing along the creases on the back page.
