This exhibition of highlights from the work of one of Ireland's greatest contemporary poets was originally planned as a survey of "A Life Well Lived," to mark the Nobel Laureate's 75th birthday in 2014. With the unexpected passing of Seamus Heaney last year on August 30, 2013, the curators determined to recast the show as an appreciation of the poet's life in print, as a testament to the ongoing power of his poetry. A foreword by Ward & Carolyn Smith and an introduction by Rand Brandes are followed by detailed descriptions of the more than fifty items on show. Seamus Heaney understood well the power of verse alone, but he also worked with many artists, and together they produced beautiful livres d'artistes and broadsides, which are among the visual highlights of the exhibition and this catalogue. Well-illustrated in color.
