Order Nr. 122530

The manuscript for this book won the 2013 Poetry Chapbook Competition at The Center for Book Arts. The judges were Sharon Dolin and Harryette Mullen. Each poem was inspired by a line from A.C. Balwin's 1853 compendium The Traveler's Vade Mecum, a list of over 8,000 phrases to be referenced by number, creating a code for conversation over long distances. Set in Monotype Bodoni and Grasset types, both cast in house at Swamp Press. Presswork executed on a Heidelberg Windmill and Vandercook Universal I. Text printed on Canaletto paper; the covers are St. Armand Canal Sisal and Hahnemühle Bugra Bütten. Linocut cover illustration by Barbara Henry of Harsimus Press. Limited edition of 100.
