First edition of Didot's translation, and the first book published by Didot. (Brunet V: 1302; Updike I, p.218). As he notes in his 6 page dedication to this brother Pierre (printed in a beautiful large cursive type), Firmin notes that he is dedicating to his brother "le premier ouvrage que je publie," printed by him in a typeface ("Anglaise") of his own design and from his typefoundry. An important book by this brilliant and learned scion of one of Europe's most important typographic families - the Didots. Only slight foxing.
