One hundred books focusing on the anatomy and surgery of the brain, as it evolved up until 1600, are presented in this catalogue. A fine copy.

The books included in the exhibition are fundamental works on surgery and anatomy, from which the present scientific field has developed. From the early sixteenth century onward, there were many books devoted to the brain, head injuries, and the skull. There were also many books that were published to guide the surgery necessary to explore the anatomy of the nervous system. Through his collection, Flemm has tried to foster an understanding of what sixteenth-century surgeons thought, what they wore during surgery, instruments used, what was considered innovative, and what ideas led to new developments. Examples of catalogues and bibliographies that list the works are also presented. The book is beautifully illustrated, contains a list of references, and includes an index of names and printers.
