See More... (Miniature Books) Ruthberg, Helen MINIATURES
Skokie, IL Black Cat Press 1982 miniature (6.5 x 5.3 cm.) full blue calf with gilt lettering on spine and cover 90, (4) pages
Printed in an edition of 249 copies by offset lithography (Bradbury, Black Cat, 74). The book examines doll-houses, rooms and furnishings scaled one inch to one foot in size. Briefly surveys the history of creating miniature settings, from ancient Egyptian, Greek and Roman works to Dutch, German, English, Japanese, French and American models dating to the last four hundred years. The second section deals with modern miniaturia. Illustrated with black and white plates of rooms, houses and collections of objects such as chairs or chests. Removed from any context that could provide scale, these images look disconcertingly like full-scale spaces. Title page and two chapter title pages printed in pink and black. Hand bound by Bela Blau. This book was published after the Black Cat Bibliography, so is not included.
