This is an essential guide for any devotee of Beatrix Potter and Peter Rabbit and of illustrators of childrens books during this period. Illustrated with eight pages of color photographs, this bibliography contains over 300 entries published between 1904 and 1980. It seeks to describe all titles published in the United States that are versions of The Tale of Peter Rabbit, or use the name of Peter Rabbit, and were not authorized by Frederick Warne.

The Tale of Peter Rabbit was first issued privately in a total of 450 copies by Beatrix Potter and was then published by Frederick Warne in 1902. Obtaining copyright in the USA at that time was fraught with difficulties, particularly for foreign publishers. Warne failed to comply with the formalities, and the book entered the public domain in the USA. The book immediately became a huge commercial success throughout the world and has remained that way ever since. Between 1904 and 1980, about 80 publishers issued their own versions of the story.

In many cases the text and/or illustrations did not follow Potters originals, and others were credited as the author and illustrator. Some books are to be regarded as derivatives of the well-known story. The books are arranged alphabetically by publisher, and entries detail publisher, illustrator, title page, binding, and more. Following the bibliography is a list of further readings, and indexes of titles, authors and illustrators.

First Edition. John Updike is internationally renowned for his novels, short stories, poems, essays and criticism. This bibliography greatly expands his 1994 compilation for Greenwood Press. De Bellis has also published two books on the poet Sidney Lanier, and articles on writers ranging from Shakespeare to Ken Kesey, and from F. Scott Fitzgerald to Truman Capote. His first published work, on Andrew Lytle, was a bibliography. De Bellis was a Fulbright scholar to the University of Toulouse in France. Michael Broomfield, a corporate lawyer by profession, has become, over the past 40 years, a preeminent collector of first editions and other materials by a number of American writers, including Raymond Carver, E.E. Cummings, William Faulkner, Joseph Heller, Robinson Jeffers and many living authors. Collecting work in many forms, Broomfield displays remarkable attention to detail and an acute understanding of the complexities of editions. He has what is probably the most extensive private collection of John Updike materials. This bibliography is Broomfield's first book. He lives in New York City with his wife and their daughter.

Steven Abbott has a master's degree in library science from Simmons College. He first met Gore Vidal when he interviewed him in Boston in 1973. At Vidal's direction, while researching this bibliography, Abbott located the original manuscript of Creation, which was then published as Creation: Restored Edition. This bibliography documents the career of the Village Press with meticulous detail and insight. In a short memoir at the beginning of this book, Frederic W. Goudy gives an account of a printer's life that is certain to be familiar to anyone who has experienced the "fun and fury" of a private press. The section from the diary of Will Ransom, co-founder of the press, gives some idea of the magnitude of the initial problems that were encountered. Despite these difficulties, the press still produced books that were an able tribute to William Morris, in many ways Goudy's chief inspiration in book design. However, the press was no mere imitation of the Kelmscott Press - in the years of its operation it forged a style that was distinctly Goudy's. Frederic W. Goudy was one of the most influential type designers of the twentieth century. His influence on advertising art and book design was considerable, and he became an arbiter of typographic taste for an entire generation between the Wars. Part of the reason for this success lay with his practical knowledge of the problems of designer and printer. Much of this expertise was gained through the Village Press. This book was originally published in 1938 in a limited edition of only 260 copies.

This book is a bibliography of photographically illustrated children's books in the field of American and international juvenile literature from 1854 to 1945. It details books that were illustrated with original photographs or related-mechanical processes, and describes author and title, as well as provides an index of photographers, illustrators, and reproduction processes linked to specific books. The collection reveals a parallel of the evolving artistic trends and the history of photography through its organization in chronological order. These trends include salted paper print, the albumen print, the carbon print, the platinum print, the silver print, and the gravure print to the halftone, from black-and-white to color. Ranging from amateur to art, each style of the 1,421 books presented has resulted in the creation of an illustration to tell a story.

There are three levels of description throughout the bibliography which vary depending on the date of publication. Children's books published between 1854 and 1895 include full, detailed entries; those between 1896 and 1914 include slightly less detailed entries; and those between 1915 and 1946 include outlined entries. Although the main list of the bibliography ends in 1945, there is an additional list of children's books to 1995 with illustrations by recognizable photographers within the art community. A preface written by photographer, Duane Michals, is included and White has also provided an historical overview of the field of photographically illustrated children's books.

Mus White was born in Denmark and is the author of the novel Jasmine in My Hand (2006).

The full stature of Leonard Woolf can only be appreciated by an awareness of all his writings and of the influence he exerted in the first half of this century. This extensive collection of Wordsworth books and manuscripts was initially gathered by Cynthia Morgan St John of Ithaca, over a period of 40 years, and purchased after her death en bloc by Victor Emanuel, who presented it to the university as a gift in 1925, along with funds to sustain and extend it. The St John library consisted of about a thousand pieces, the collection catalogued here contains almost 3500 items, with pagination, title, publisher, date, issue points, and annotations regarding exceptional features. The catalogue is divided into ten parts, including Writings of Wordsworth in Book Form, 1793-1850; Wordsworthiana; Coleridge and his Family; The Lake District; Books of Associative Interest; Manuscripts; and Miscellaneous Items.
