A Burt Franklin reprint (their Bibliography and Reference Series no. 412) of the original 1895 edition, which was a facsimile reproduction of a handwritten bibliography (dated no earlier than 1893) from the Bibliothèque Nationale. Besterman 173. Arranged by chapter (23) and then by topical subdivisions. Most of the items covered deal with Egypt and Northern Africa. About 5,000 unnumbered entries. The handwriting is generally quite good, but the quality of the reproduction, made from a copy in the NY Public Library, varys from page to page, so that parts of some pages are difficult to read. A few small stains and scratches, nothing of consequence.

(Besterman 310, Blogie 634 & 637) By the time of the last supplement (1887), the company's name had changed to Maisonneuve Frères & Ch. Leclerc. The combined work includes well over 3620 entries dealing with North and South (and Central) America and the Philippines. The first catalogue was issued in 1867. Bookseller's ink stamp on free endpaper.

This auction of copperplate engravings included 1,649 items. The marbled paper on the cover of this copy is worn at the edges and shows some abrasions elsewhere. The spine cloth and the interior show minor soiling. The endpaper is lightly foxed. The title page has two stamps of previous owners (one embossed, and a smaller one in ink). The first 17 pages include notations of the selling prices; careful underlining of some titles appears in scattered locations. A list of the resulting prices is bound in. A loosely laid-in plate indicates that this copy came from the reference library of H. P. Kraus.

Field work in all disciplines and in all sections of the Arctic region are represented, particularly in the 19th and 20th centuries. In selection of material, some priority has been given to narratives and scientific results written by the explorers and scientists themselves.
