Oxford Bibl. Soc. New Series vol. xxii. The clergyman and author Robert Burton (1577-1640) also had a library, much of which went at his death to the Bodleian and Christ Church libraries. His library is of interest "mainly because it was assembled by the author of the Anatomy of Melancholy and contains annotations in his hand...[and also] because it was very large for the period and has survived almost intact with bits of information on dates of acquisition, prices paid, and former owners" (Intro. xxvii). Lists 1,738 books from Burton's library, including 1,500+ now at Oxford and 168 unlocated. With 10 photographic plates of Burton annotations, etc. Appendices note unique books, books by imprint date, acquisition date, etc. etc.
