    S-K 1415. First editions. (Brenni 527 and 775). This landmark catalogue of Schiff's private collection of 413 SIGNED bindings contains information that had appeared in no other sources. For the binders whose work is described, not only are the bindings illustrated, but also doublures and inner dentelles and binder's stamps and binder's tickets are shown. The period covered extends from the beginning of the 18th century to the middle of the 19th century. Schiff's books were sold at auction in 1938 with disastrous results - the times were not right for such a sale. Corners bumped and a little scuffed.

    Houten HES & DE GRAAF 2013 9 x 12.5 inches hardcover 1,882 pages in four volumes
    This four-volume set is a complete census of the woodcuts in Dutch and Flemish incunabula, and a record of all places in which they appear. The first appearance of the woodcut (or series of woodcuts) is registered, as are all repetitions of that woodcut before 1501. It also gives a survey of woodcuts used by different printers. This inventory provides a very accurate dating system for incunabula.

    Over 3800 different illustrations have been found in incunabula printed in the Low Countries, which illustrate the history of the use of woodcuts - the different states, the different stages of wear and tear.

    Limited to 200 numbered copies. The text simply tells the complex way that handmade paper is produced. It is attractively illustrated with woodcut drawings by Jim Lee, and some borrowed plates from Diderot. The paper used is of various shades and textures and the type used was the Stempel Palatino of Herman Zapf. Zapf also designed the title page for the book.

    2 volumes. London and New Castle, Delaware The British Library and Oak Knoll Books 1984, 1991 4to hand-bound in quarter vellum for the author by James Brockman, leather spine labels, slipcase with some leather trim. xii,407; 512 pages.
    One of nine numbered sets bound-thus and signed by Tidcombe. This special edition contains three additional color plates in the first volume and two samples of marbled paper in the second volume. Companion volumes covering all aspects of Cobden-Sanderson and his bindings. The first volume covers the bindings executed by him over the period 1884-1893 and before the establishment of the Doves Bindery. The second volume is a chronicle of the binding shop he founded in 1893 and the famous bindings it produced over a 30 year period. In its early years the bindery shared premises with William Morris's Kelmscott Press. The consequent collaboration resulted in a series of richly-decorated copies of the Kelmscott Chaucer. Later on the majority of the bindery's work was for the Doves Press, which Cobden-Sanderson founded with Emery Walker in 1900. Dr. Tidcombe's comprehensive work includes a complete catalogue of the books produced with many bindings illustrated in color. Bound by one of England's most famous contemporary binders.
