Inside the back cover are two folded sheets with floor plan and elevation of a bookstore in Königsberg. Worn along edges and at spine ends. A square section (2 x 2 in.) has been cut out on the cloth part of the back cover.

Roth wrote this poem to mark the hundredth anniversary of the bookselling firm Rudolf Merkel and to celebrate the opening of their Munich store. It was published in this form for Merkel's customers and friends for Advent 1965. The exterior of this copy shows minor wear along the fore-edge. A loosely laid-in plate indicates that this copy came from the reference library and stock of H. P. Kraus. The binding staples have rusted slightly. Otherwise the interior shows minimal soiling or wear.

These booksellers catalogues feature 1,902 and 1,800 items respectively. (Blogie 442) The exteriors of this set have light to moderate soiling, ink stamps and other markings. The spine of the second volume is damaged and the wrappers are almost detached. Inside, the leaves have darkened with age. A loosely laid-in plate indicates that this copy came from the reference library and stock of H. P. Kraus. In the second volume are scattered notations (mostly in the margins), and the final three leaves (advertising items available from Harrassowitz but not part of the Milkau collection) are fragile and partly torn, with some loss.

A really miniature book. Brief history of the first 65 years or so of Dawson's Book Shop, known in 1905 as "Ernest Dawson's Antique Book Shop." The front cover design, "65" in large (for the book) gilt figures with "years" in smaller gilt lettering centered underneath, is repeated on the page preceding the half title in smaller figures and lettering, with the number in gilt on a square, red background and the "years" in red letters. The drawing on the verso of the half title is a cartoon based on the Spitzweg painting of the bibliophile on the ladder. Handset, printed and bound by Bela Blau.
