See More... (Arctic) Tremaine, Marie (editor) ARCTIC BIBLIOGRAPHY.
3 volumes bound in six Mansfield Centre, CT Martino Publishing Co. (2002) 8vo. cloth 4485 pages
A facsimile of the original 1953 edition prepared for and in cooperation with the Department of Defense, Washington, D.C., under the direction of the Arctic Institute of North America. An annotated listing of 20,003 titles, making this by far the most comprehensive bibliography of Arctic books in Besterman (4919). Field work in all disciplines and in all sections of the Arctic region are represented, particularly in the 19th and 20th centuries. In selection of material, some priority has been given to narratives and scientific results written by the explorers and scientists themselves. Files of all essentially arctic journals and of major journals in various subject fields have been searched through 1949. The bibliography is arranged in two sections: (1) an alphabetic register, under the author's name, of his books, papers, and contributions to works of multiple authorship; (2) a subject-geographic index to these publications. Please note that the maps at the end of the earlier edition are not reproduced here.

A reprint of the original edition, published by George Franz, München, 1858-79 (Arntzen & Rainwater, Guide to the Literature of Art History, E58). The standard work on artists' monograms, illustrated with more than 30,000 facsimiles. An indispensable tool to identify artists who signed themselves only by their monogram or similar devices. Thousands of these artists were also book illustrators, hence this work's importance for books as well as fine art in general. Nagler begins by giving an exact facsimile of the monogram, followed by the artist's name, a biographical sketch, list of works, and books illustrated by him. This edition also includes an index of artists' names at the end of the fifth volume.

New York The Grolier Club 1998 6 x 9 inches paperback 120 pages
This catalogue, made to accompany the exhibition held at the Grolier Club from March 11 to May 2, 1998, expresses the voices of American women writers through their books. The catalogue explores the movement of women writers in America, beginning with the homespun verse of Ann Bradstreet (the first volume of poetry published by any American) and closing with the appearance of Edith Wharton's highly polished "Age of Innocence" (winner of the 1921 Pulitzer Prize for the best American novel). It is intended to be an overview of the works of authors who reflect the historical concerns of women living in America and the emerging voice of the American woman writer. The book also includes a frontispiece in color and a full-page illustration in black-and-white. It was designed and typeset by Katy Homans, and printed by the Stinehour Press.

(Bernardston, MA and Mansfield Centre, CT Astronomy Books and Martino Publishing Co. 2001) 4to. cloth viii, 499+(1) pages
Facsimile reprint limited to 75 copies of an edition first published in Edinburgh by Authority of Her Majesty's Government in 1890. (Besterman 588). Donated by James Ludovic, Earl of Crawford, to the Edinburgh Royal Observatory, the collection of the Library of Dunecht Observatory started with the library of the late Charles Babbage, was augmented by a number of very rare works from the library at Haigh Hall, Lancashire, and included some works on natural history obtained for the Mauritius Expedition in 1874. From this strong beginning, works in the areas of comets, physics and pure mathematics were added. The catalogue, which describes about 10,000 books on astronomy, is arranged in alphabetical order, chiefly by author followed by the title, number of volumes, number of plates, maps, etc., size, and finally the dimensions. There are also eighteen cross-referenced subject headings. This extremely rare catalogue has never been reprinted. Almost all extant copies of the original are very brittle due to the paper used for printing.

2 volumes. Bernardston, MA and Mansfield Centre, CT Astronomy Books & Martino Publishing 2006 4to. cloth. (iv),viii,511; (iv),512-1048 pages..
Luther's compilation is an exhaustive new bibliography on the literature of astronomy. It records over 4000 authors and 15,000 titles, with an additional 3,000 new cross-references. Most authors are recorded with full names, dates of birth and death, and the authorities for that information. Most titles are recorded with the approximate size of the book, place of publication, and date of publication. Special care has been taken to record titles by obscure minor figures, meteorological titles, and unconventional titles. The inclusion of serial off-prints gives a breadth to the listings of each other which has yet to be approached by the offerings of on-line catalogues. The work has been compiled with the attention to detail and has taken several years to complete. For the first time the holdings of the Royal Astronomical Society have been brought up to date and augmented for the student of the historical literature of astronomy.

New York The Grolier Club 1971 8.5 x 11 inches hardcover 137 pages
Jean Grolier can be considered a window to the history of French culture. He was interested in Italian and French scholarship, music and publications, antiquarian books, book collecting, and more. The Grolier Club has been named after this "prince of bibliophiles." This book is a groundbreaking study of the legendary bibliophile and patron of printing. Colin Eisler provides an informational and historical introductory study on Jean Grolier and the Renaissance that includes a full-page color illustration of Grolier's Painted Arms and Emblematic Device. It also contains eight full-page black-and-white illustrations including an Italian plaquette binding and various forms of Grolier's signature.

The bibliography includes books and essays that discuss Grolier bindings in different collections, in addition to contemporary references to Jean Grolier. The extensive catalogue lists books from the library of Jean Grolier, providing author, title, editor, imprint, size, provenance, booksellers, catalogues of private libraries and auction sales, and catalogues of institutional libraries. Entries are arranged alphabetically by author, Greek authors are listed in their English form, Roman authors in Latin form, and others in their colloquial form. Books tell us many things beyond what their authors write in them. Single copies of books, for instance, often reveal their particular history, who owned them, who read them, who gave them as gifts, how they changed hands over the years. This catalogue of the Beinecke Library exhibition, A Book of Her Own, explores an unusual aspect of book history: all of the books in the display, based on various sorts of evidence contained in the books, were owned by women before the year 1700.
