Königsberg Kanter 1943 small 4to. stiff paper wrapper with dust jacket attached to spine (viii), 236 pages plus 32 leaves of plates
These essays give in honor of Wilhelm Worringer on his sixtieth birthday cover a wide range of topics, from a study of the iconography of the early Middle Ages to the landscapes of Jakob van Ruisadels to a philosophical study of Nietzsche. Wilhelm Worringer (1881--1965) was a German professor and scholar whose contribution to the study of art history cannot be overstated. His career took off immediately with the publication of his doctoral dissertation, in which he formulated a theory that justified abstract and expressionist art through a study of aesthetics.
