It was published in this form for Merkel's customers and friends for Advent 1965. The exterior of this copy shows minor wear along the fore-edge. A loosely laid-in plate indicates that this copy came from the reference library and stock of H. P. Kraus. The binding staples have rusted slightly. Otherwise the interior shows minimal soiling or wear.

The first catalogues medals, autographs, portraits and literary works related to Friedrich von Schiller and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, both of whom were instrumental in the Sturm und Drang literary movement in eighteenth century Germany. With facsimiles of writing samples and portraits. The second catalogue supplements the sale items with works related to Goethe alone. The next two issues catalogue sale items from the collection of Eduard von Bamberg. The final catalogue arranged by genre, chronology, topography and occasionally by author. These booksellers catalogues feature 1,902 and 1,800 items respectively. (Blogie 442) The exteriors of this set have light to moderate soiling, ink stamps and other markings. The spine of the second volume is damaged and the wrappers are almost detached. Inside, the leaves have darkened with age. A loosely laid-in plate indicates that this copy came from the reference library and stock of H. P. Kraus. In the second volume are scattered notations (mostly in the margins), and the final three leaves (advertising items available from Harrassowitz but not part of the Milkau collection) are fragile and partly torn, with some loss.

The standard biographical dictionary for the Netherlands. This set lacks Volumes 7-9 (each with its own alphabet), but includes Volume 10 with the overall index. Editors of later volumes include Prof. Dr. L. Knappert (v. 5) and Dr. Fr. K.H. Kossman (v. 6 and 10). The exteriors of this set show modest soiling. The leather spine labels of Volumes 1-5, salvaged from the original binding, are chipped. The corners of volumes 6 and 10 have been bumped a little. The binding of Volume 10 has cracked at the hinge in two places: about one third in from the back (where it has not completely separated) and a few pages in from the back (where it has separated). The rear cover and spine have pulled away from the textblock and remain attached only at the front hinge. Each volume has a bookplate affixed to the front pastedown indicating that this set came from the reference library H.P. Kraus.

Accompanied by eight color plates depicting Native American pottery. Includes countless other black-and-white illustrations of earthenware as well as a map of the Ouachita River, which runs from central western Arkansas into Louisiana. Over forty catalogues from the Dutch subscription agent and book dealer Martinus Nijhoff, produced over a fifty year period. Martinus Nijhoff was founded in The Hague in 1853. It began as a small shop specializing in rare books and broadened in the ensuing years to include supplying and procuring books for academic libraries. Catalogues are printed in either Dutch, English, German or French. With special issues devoted to industrial art and architecture, Netherlandish history, and Dutch East India, among other topics. Two catalogues were specially printed for Mr. W. Nijhoff's sales trip to the U.S. in the 1930s. Martinus Nijhoff remains in business, though it is now owned by Brill Academic Publishers.
