Catalogue de Vente No. 1 de la Nouvelle Série. This auction catalogue offers items from the collection of bookseller William S. Kundig (and others)--ranging from fourteenth-century illustrated manuscripts from France (a Latin Bible) and Italy (Aesop's fables) to printed books of the early twentieth century. Many books, letters and works of art are represented in black-and-white illustrations scattered throughout the text or in the plates that follow. The volume includes a two-page spread showing a 1511 map of the world in red and black. Also illustrated is a document signed by Raphael. The catalogue is soiled and moderately worn. A label pasted at the bottom of the front wrapper indicates that this copy came from the bookseller P.-L. Bader of Geneva; a bookplate pasted on the inside of the front wrapper indicates that it also was part of the reference library and stock of H.P. Kraus.

The first volume and its supplement of this annual publications for the investigation and maintenance of art and historic monuments. Collection of essays covering a wide range of topics, including eleventh century book illustrators in Salzburg, medieval wall paintings in Italy, studies on Dürer and Michelangelo and a look at Spanish paintings in an Austrian portrait gallery to name a few. The editor of the series Max Dvorák (1874--1921) was the curator of public monuments in Austria and a professor at the University of Vienna. His studies often discussed art as a series of tensions. He believed that art developed in a linear progression, and he often favored the examination of broad art historical concepts over close analysis of individual works. Often controversial, Dvorák was hugely influential. Loose bookplate indicates that this copy was purchased from the collection of H.P. Kraus. Bottom corner of most edges water damaged. Edges of cover rubbed. Back cover scuffed and chipped.

Original cloth cover of this copy is moderately soiled and shows minor wear including a three-eighths-inch split along the joint between the front and spine. A plate attached to the front pastedown indicates that this copy came from the reference library and stock of H. P. Kraus. A tiny number label is attached to the upper fore-edge corner of the front free endpaper. Splits at the hinge are evident in three locations, but the leaves are still attached to the binding throughout. Otherwise the interior shows minor wear and soiling.
