Includes a short history of the firm, many pages of type specimens, examples of their design work, paper specimens, examples of illustrations (wood engraving, zinc etching, wax engraving, halftone, three color halftone), six pages with many tipped-in specimens of cloth in different color and two pages with 16 tipped-in examples of leather samples in different colors, all identified. Tipped-in is a facsimile four page A.L.s. from Stanhope's great grandson giving permission to the firm to use the name. Minor scuffing of cloth.

Valéry, Paul LES BUCOLIQUES DE VIRGILE.
Lithographies originales en couleurs de Jacques Villon. Paris Scripta & Picta 1953 folio text pages loosely inserted in publisher's paper folder, chemise, and slipcase. xxx, 126, (10) pages.
First Villon edition, one of 245 copies (total edition). However, this is one of the few copies reserved for the collaborators with their names printed on the colophon page. This copy was Valéry's own with his name printed on the colophon page. This beautifully illustrated book contains 45 (44 in color) original lithographs by Jacques Villon, hors- and in-texte, printed on Arches wove paper by F. Mourlot. Villon himself engraved each color on a separate stone, producing 320 different stone plates. An important book (See Strachan's The Artist and the Book in France for various mentions). The outer slipcase is faded and worn along edges. The book is in very fine condition. Bookplate of Margaret Winkelman on inside cover of chemise.

Printed in an edition limited to 150 numbered copies. Surveys the history of German engravings made for the service of commercial art. Begins with the fifteenth-century engraver Master ES, arguably the most influential early German print-maker, and works through the nineteenth century with a general history. Tipped in illustrations include a reproduction of an early woodcut from 1544 printed in red and black, a few broadsheets and several ex-libris labels. Printed on luxurious hand-made paper. Cover printed in red. Title page and decorative initial letters printed with red and black. Loose bookplate indicates that this copy was purchased from the collection of H.P. Kraus. Cover irregularly faded and slightly soiled. Edges creased.

Marie Rouanet's text was inspired by ten mezzotints (eleven plates) by Judith Rothchild and the spirit of the restaurant, The Mimosa, created by Bridget and David Pugh. The book is comprised of a suite of prints and text in loose sheets of Hahnemuhle paper. The text was printed letterpress on an Albion press by Mark Lintott. The boxes are covered in Fabriano Ingres screen printed with mimosa leaves. The colophon is signed by the author and artist and the prints are initialed by the artist.
