Two page A.L.s. from Henry Stevens, Jr.(1819-1886), to W.H. Huntington in Paris, dated September 2, 1880. Stevens noted that he had sent a copy of his essay on Franklin's writings to Huntington and expected payment from a Mr. Smalley, which had not been received. Stevens asked Huntington to settle the account. Stevens was a London bookseller (catalogue entry for the Henry Stevens papers, University of Vermont library, Burlington).

Stevens moved from Vermont to England to become one of the prime forces in the formation of many superb American libraries including the Lexon and Brown. Light wear at spine ends. First blank page has dampstained along bottom. Light foxing. Well preserved copy.

A wonderful history of Americana collecting told by the bookseller, Henry Stevens. Loosely inserted is the original four page prospectus offering both the trade and the special editions of this book. These special large paper copies are in a bigger format and the original price was almost 4 times the price of the regular edition, Covers show rubbing and some soiling. Small chip out of edge of leather spine label.

Presentation over the entire front free endpaper in the typical scrolling writing of Stevens "C.W. Wyman, with the regards of Henry Stevens. 10 Tafalgar Square, June 9, 1881." Wyman was the noted printing history authority who co-authored Bigmore & Wyman. Covers age darkend along edges and spine with wear at spine ends.
