(Mansfield Centre, CT Martino Publishing Co. 2002) 8vo. cloth (ii),94; 44 pages
A facsimile of the original edition published by Carl Duncker, Berlin, 1888 & 1890. Dessoir's bibliography covers the period from 1855 to 1900. Also included is the scarce 1890 supplement, which adds 382 entries to the 812 previously catalogued (Besterman 2980). Many of the items described concern the three main schools of magnetism/hypnotism as they existed in France during the 1890's in Saltpetriere, Nancy, and Charity. The School at Nancy used a more formal method of induction which became the style first preferred by Sigmund Freud and which continues in practice to this day.
