First edition (Wing M2953). Motteux (1663-1718) emigrated to London and won literary recognition for his translations of Rabelais and Cervantes. He died at the age of 55 while entertaining a prostitute during a strenuous birthday celebration. This copy has a small piece of the title page lacking affecting one word. Foxed and browned throughout.
