Map of Milford, Delaware in Kent County, matted. Map contains a directory of businesses and manufacturers, as well as a list of residential references. Scale inch to the mile. This leaf has been removed from a incomplete copy of Beers' 1868 Atlas of the State of Delaware (page 59), which contains "actual surveys by and under the direction of D.G. Beers." Daniel G. Beers came from a family of atlas publishers. He and his brother Silas operated in Philadelphia, the center of atlas publication in the United States, until he moved to New York City in 1868. Beers and his family produced detailed maps of many Northeastern states, cities, and counties until the 1880s, when the United States began to systematize mapping practices, and mapmaking moved out of private publication (Mano, Jo Margaret). Engraved by Worley & Bracher of Philadelphia and printed by Fred Bourquin.

SPECIMEN BOOK OF TYPE AND BORDERS CAST ON POINT BODIES. C...
by Stevens.

This specimen book details samples of the R.H. Stevens & Co. faces, borders, and symbols. The type specimen book and catalogue of printing materials from R.H. Stevens, who succeeded V. & F. Figgins in 1907, a firm originally founded in 1792, and later carried on as Stevens, Shanks & Sons. In 1874 the firm began a new series of specimen books in octavo in an edition of 5000 copies, giving an idea of its importance at that time. Lacking the smaller second catalogue on printing material. Cover completely missing (front, spine, rear). Some chipping, but overall text block beautiful and intact. Bumped at bottom of spine. Price list dated 1912 tipped-in.
