NORTH WINTER
Carruth, Hayden
Carruth's poem on the title subject. Carruth has used the evocative character of his words and creative typsetting to achieve a visceral and vicarious experience of winter in the north. The chill of the season even appears in the illustrations by Dale Ballantyne, all done in a frosty wintergreen ink. The only coloristic spots of heat appear in the orange ink of the title page, and the red and orange inks of the paper dust jacket. A presentation from the author on the title page reads: "For Bernard (Taylor) from Hayden 3 June 85."
