BOOKPLATES FROM MUSSETT'S HERALDIC OFFICE, WITH A NOTE ON THEIR FORERUNNERS.
Lee, Brian North
Printed in an edition limited to 350 copies, of which 300 are for members of the Bookplate Society. A catalogue of bookplates produced by five generations at Mussett's Heraldic Office, London, from 1888-1985, being as complete as possible, a record of a single area of the firm's expertise. "Most of their ex-libris are competent and some are superb examples of heraldic engraving. Prints occur in many collections, some unrecognized because of the minuteness of their signatures, and few have any inkling of the size of the firm's output" (introduction). The catalogue-508 entries- includes all ex-libris, signed and unsigned, in the Mussett archive, together with signed examples from other sources. Wherever possible, the owner is identified, with biographical information where available. Illustrated with 22 plates, containing 2 or 3 images each. Engraving of the premises as frontispiece.
