Limited to 775 copies, numbered and signed by the author, of which 750 were for sale. Printed by W.A. Lewis at the Cambridge University Press. With a pictorial design on the front cover from a woodcut by Percy Smith. James Laver (1899-1975), in a widely varied career, won the Newdigate prize for verse at Oxford in 1921, wrote Nostradamus or The Future Foretold (1942), Taste & Fashion, A History of English Costume (1937), books on 19th century French art, and was Keeper of the Victoria and Albert museum for almost forty years. Half-title and final page discolored from offset.
