Davenport provides notes on techniques for creating mezzotints, as well as a wealth of information on the engravers who are noted for this art form. Illustrated with plates, many of which are portraits of well known figures of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, that are examples of the work of the artists mentioned. With the bookplate and pencil signature of Gavin Bridson. Some cover soiling.
