Printed in an edition of 50 copies to distribute to friends. Book designed and type hand set by Samuel T. Farquhar, his first work of type composition. Presswork done by well-known printer Lawton Kennedy, and the work completed in the shop of Johnck & Seeger in San Francisco. Bacon's famous brief essay on study and learning, with his famous quotation: "Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested. . . ." Minor abrasion to front board.
