BIBLIOTHECA JAPONICA: DICTIONAIRE BIBLIOGRAPHIQUE DES OUVRAGES RELATIFS A L'EMPIRE JAPONAIS RANGÉS PAR ORDRE CHRONOLOGIQUE JUSQU'A 1870.
Cordier, Henri
Reprint of the 1912 edition. The "pioneer and still standard list of materials for Japanese studies." Walford II:274 (Besterman 3245; Sheehy DE 249.) This is the companion volume to Cordier's authoritative bibliography on China. An annotated listing of books on Japan in Western languages, it presents works chronologically from pre-Marco Polo items to 1870. An appendix lists alphabetically the principal works published from 1870 to 1912; there is also a useful author index. The 3,500 works listed make this the most extensive bibliography of early printed books on Japan.
