First edition. Catalog of prints by the pioneer of the color printing process. Includes an excellent historical account of Baxter's life and work. Explains how he achieved his new process, which allowed for great volumes of cheap yet artistic color pictures to be taken into the homes of the masses. Also section with hints and advice on collecting his works. Includes twenty-one illustrations in full color and many others in black-and-white of Baxter's most famous works. Detailed commentary accompanies the prints. Indices and appendix included. Some marginalia; newspaper clippings inserted. Hinges bent. Spine, edges rubbed. Light foxing throughout. Small crease in spine covering.
