CHARLES HOLTZAPFFEL'S PRINTING APPARATUS FOR THE USE OF AMATEURS REPRINTED FROM THE THIRD GREATLY ENLARGED EDITION OF 1846 AND EDITED BY JAMES MOSLEY & DAVID CHAMBERS.
Holtzapffel, Charles
This edition reprints the first English manual intended for the private press printer. Fascinating reading, much of this information is good practical advice for those interested in letterpress printing, even today. With fifteen pages of type specimens, ornaments, and a priced catalogue devoted to all the other apparatus, this book describes the Parlour Press, a hinged bellows-type press operated by a beaked lever on top of the platen in much the same way as the flatbed Adana of today. Photographs and plans of this press are included in this edition. With an introduction by James Mosley, librarian of St Bride's Printing Library with notes on the original text. Bookplate.
